A digital colorimeter works on the Beer–Lambert law, which states that the absorbance of light by a solution is directly proportional to its concentration. The instrument contains a light source, optical filter, cuvette (sample holder), photo detector, amplifier, and a digital display. Light passes through the sample, and the absorbed light is measured by the detector. The electrical signal generated is processed and displayed digitally as absorbance, transmittance, or concentration.
